BEHAVIOURAL ECONOMICS- ADD ON COURSE

Manya Kapoor

The Department has initiated an add on certificate course on Behavioural Economics, starting from January 2020. It is a three month long course which aims to familiarise students with this promising field of economics which is gaining immense popularity in today's times and is expanding the horizon of economics.
Behavioural Economics is an interesting intersection of economics, psychology and neuroscience. It drifts from rationality to  “ecological rationality” as proposed by behavioural economists who go beyond the economic theory given in textbooks. Since governments, commercial entities, academicians  and the world in general today are adopting behavioural insights in their respective fields and making it more dynamic, it becomes imperative to acquaint students with the nuances and give them a general understanding of the same so as to pave way into future research and development in this realm of economics.
With this in mind, the Department under the able guidance of the conveners, Dr Niti Bhutani and Dr. Chandan Singha, launched the course and saw an overwhelming response from the students of Delhi University. The application for enrollment into the course was open to all the students of the University and after a rigorous process, 50 students were shortlisted for the same.
The course content ranges from introduction to behavioral economics, behavioural finance , game theory, behavioral aspects in public policy and also includes some experimental economics.
The course is being facilitated by experienced academicians of this field and include professors from JNU, IIM Ahmedabad, Ashoka University, South Asian University and Meghnad Desai Academy.
