On 4th February 2020, the Department of Economics, Hindu College hosted the fourth edition of its flagship event Wits & Wickets as a part of the annual festival, L’economiste 2020. The event is one of the biggest IPL auctions in the DU circuit which not only challenges participants to use their strategic skills but also fuels their passion for cricket.
With over 100 participants, the event commenced with a preliminary quiz consisting of questions related to economics and cricket. The top 8 teams were selected and a speculation based betting round was conducted in order to allocate capital to these teams. This was followed by the auction round in which bidding on batsmen, bowlers, all rounders and wicket keepers took place in order to formulate a team. Each cricket player was allocated skill points and summation of the skill points of all players of the team determined the top 4 teams. In the final round, the top 4 teams played virtual matches. Each team played 6 matches and points were allotted for winning, losing and being tied in a match.
At the end of the event, a cash prize of ₹5,000 was awarded to the team that emerged victorious and the runner ups were awarded a cash prize of ₹3,000. The day concluded on a joyous note.
