Editor-In-Chief's Note

Dear Reader,

It is with great pride and gratitude that The Editorial Board, Student Body, The Department of Economics of Hindu College presents to you the first edition of our rebranded newsletter: The Anchor. After great deliberation we deviated from the age old name of the newsletter Arth, to bring to you ‘The Anchor’.

Just like an Anchor is someone who provides a narrative, we hope that this newsletter sets an economic narrative. An anchor is also something that provides stability and support (a ship’s anchor) and we hope that this newsletter supports students by providing them an avenue for expressing their opinions.

I believe that economics forms the basis of our everyday lives. From the rickshaw we take to the book we buy,  everything is governed directly or indirectly by economic laws and theories. The theme for this newsletter is “The Economics of Small Things”, highlighting the fact that economics isn’t just about intricate terminologies and complex data.

Being entirely student run, The Anchor is in a way, students’ tribute to the field of Economics, and the power it has given us to visualise the world more analytically. This is not to say that Anchor is by the students of economics, for the students of economics. Our love for economics stems from the fact that it is a dynamic field that keeps evolving.

This newsletter is a result of the incessant efforts and dedication of the Editorial Board, and each and every member has contributed their best to making the product you now see. Therefore, a big congratulations and thank you to the Editorial Board, our guest writers and all those featured for powering ‘The Anchor’.

Lastly, I am honoured to release this edition during the book launch of ‘Labouring Lives’ written by our beloved Professor Archana Aggarwal. We, at the Editorial Board, are sincerely grateful for the opportunity and hope that everyone takes back a little something from this edition.

Happy reading!
