अर्थ  IN FOCUS

In the post pandemic status quo, today the world has learnt to live digitally. The global collective today has made a transition from the old normal to a new one, where the importance and relevance of a digital way of living is not only highlighted as an innovation, but rather a developmental need.

It is no secret that technology not only brings convenience but also enhanced security. However, with this comes the responsibility to ensure access and appropriate usage of these novel instruments of economic being. This way of living is truly dynamic and global, and India has made strides in that direction and has been recognized for its technological acumen on the world stage. India’s economic needs can be defined in terms of -

  • bolstering financial inclusion

  • accruing ease in making transactions

  • establishing effective communications and healthcare

  • guaranteeing and supplying internet connectivity to broaden access to secure banking channels

  • administering proper execution of government schemes and programmes by strengthening the financial systems of the country.

In all these areas, India has continued to work hard and make itself self-reliant. Through creations like the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Direct Benefit Transfers (DBTs), UIDAI, Know Your Customer (KYC), Neo Banking, 5G and etc., India has come a long way from where it started to make sure the economy moves forward much faster.

This task has mostly been successful in the Tier 1 cities, but to ensure panoramic reach, it must percolate to the lesser developed and rural regions too. In the era of digital identity, the provision of flexible policies becomes a crucial aspect of governance, along with designing critical legislation towards cybersecurity and data handling, a place where India needs to work on urgently.

This is not only an Indian revolution, but one where the world is involved proactively. Today, all countries work towards mitigating the damages and ills of digitization of economies and building a secure global network of economic cooperation and efficiency. The consequences of digitization, however, are not entirely economic. The foremost consequence of digitization panders to the cause of governance, by simulating targeted assistance, the key to unlocking the developmental plans of any country. Apart from having connotations related to internal governance, digitization is essential in the area of the international status quo.

Thus, digitization has a major role to play in the way the world operates today and shall operate in the future. Its economic ramifications are exacerbated by its need in the present times, along with due policy structures that not only nourish and strengthen it, but also propound it in a palpable manner for all.
